The Skinny Girl

100% of Steve Matthews' income from this book (in perpetuity), is donated to a variety of charities that support victims of domestic violence.

A story of silence that must be told.

Shy, petite Daisy Croucher lives in other people’s shadows and is practically invisible, even in her own family. She is surprised and flattered when popular pub local Jeff Singleton looks her way. ‘Skinny Minnie,’ he calls her.

Jeff has a golden rule when it comes to women – never keep one for more than thirty days. Then he meets Daisy.

Life with Jeff is a roller-coaster ride, the likes of which Daisy never imagined. She soon discovers that marriage consists of more than playing happy families in the suburbs. Daisy’s marriage has its secrets. Matthews positions the reader to walk a mile in Daisy’s shoes. Can she step out of the shadows and shine?

Andrew Denton

Why not switch your TV and devices off and have a conversation with your kids about boundaries – how to recognise them and how to honour them. Perhaps you could extend the chat to the importance of respect, and also how significant kindness is in a world that can be very unkind at times. As Andrew Denton recently said “what you tell your kids they are, is what they will be."

I went through a whole range of emotions as I walked in Daisy's shoes, and I must say, I read the book pretty quickly and found it hard to put down. It really was a great read!"

Mark Speakman MP, NSW Attorney General

"Domestic abuse is endemic in society today and The Skinny Girl goes a long way to showing readers just how mentally and physically debilitating it can be, through the eyes of a victim. A great story, well told."
